Roto Grip Rockstar Amped Review
Pearl evolution of the proven Rockstar Solid. More length and sharper backend when lanes open up. $164.95. Video inside.
Hi, if you're new here, my name is Malia Briggs. I'm a Storm Junior staffer and today I'm doing a ball review on the new Rotogrip Rockstar Amps. Now, I have to admit, I never rolled the original Rockstar Solid right here. So, I'm excited to try this ball. I'm going to be comparing it to the Ember. I really like the Ember. I actually just rolled it in League and shot at 692. I should have had 700. I missed the easy spare, so that's on me. But, I really like that ball. And similar to the Rockstar, it is a symmetric pearl bowling ball. So, I'm
excited to try this ball out. Let's get it. Okay, first shot here with a Rotogrip Amp. I did just film a ball review on the Storm Equinox Solid. If you haven't already, go check that out. But I did move to lanes 19 uh for this ball review. was a fresh house shot. Let's see how she rolled. Now, you will notice I also changed my shoes. Had to match
the fit. Okay, I'm going to stay on a board 20. We'll see how she rolls. [Music] Oh, that's good. Okay, that last shot looks really good. Split eight, nine. See, we can't do it again here. had a squad cheat for me that last time. >> Okay, I'm going sit on board 20.
Oh, okay. Okay, that last shot I got it more in the oil and it it fought through, but I need to get it out further. I'll see if I can't throw a better shot here. [Music] Oh yeah, that looks good. >> Hey, that was good. See if I can't do it again. Get two in a row.
>> Oh yeah, that was really good. balls really go through the pins. Good. It's a pearl symmetric and it has that power edge finish. >> See how I can't get three in a row. Turkey. [Music] >> Oh yeah, it's day nine. >> Oh, that looked really good. The ball seems to really like the friction out there.
Hit it. >> Okay, that was a good shot. Thought I was going to get another pin to hit that nine pin, but I'm going to switch couple more shots here. I'm going to switch to my 900 global ember. See how it compares. All right. [Music] Come on, ball. Oh, I got it out there. Okay, two more shots here with a Rockstar amp. I'm
going to switch to my 900 Global Ember and see how it compares. >> Oh, no. Okay. Well, still a good shot here. [Music] >> Push. Oh, it pushed. One more shot here with
the Rotogrip Rockstar amp and then I'm going to switch to my 900 global ember and see how it compares. Interchangeable it. I love it. All my balls feel the same. Thanks, Vice. Now, I'm going to stand on board 20 just like I did with the
Rockstar AM and we'll see how it compares. This one should be a little weaker. Okay, I didn't do that last shot the best. >> I think it has more back end, but let's find another shot here. Stand on board 20.
Oh, hit it. Oh yeah, messenger. Okay, that was nice to see. I don't get very many messengers. >> All right, a couple more shots here. >> Oh yeah, >> been liking the 900 Global Ember. If you've been watching some of my vlogs, you definitely see that roll in tournaments. definitely made the tournament back.
>> Oh, good shot. >> Okay, two more and then we'll switch back to my Rockstar amped and get left and see how it rolls. [Music] Okay, last one here. I'm going to switch to my Rotogrip Rockstar amp and see how it looks when I get left with it.
Last one here. Let's make it a good one. Wheel. Oh, that was nice. Okay, going to use my vice. It got switch back to my rockstar amped. I'm going to get left here. I'm going to stand on about board 25. Throw a little slower and see how she rolls. Oh, I can't roll. And there's no pins.
Okay, I got some pins. I'm going to stand on board 25. Go a little slower here with the Rockstar amp. Let's see how it looks. All right. >> Oh, yeah. >> Okay, last one looked good. See if we can't do it again.
All right. I look good. >> Nice drive. >> A little hard. Okay, two more here with the Rotogrip Rockstar AMP standing left. I'm going to get right with my feet. Now, there's a lot of friction outside, so I'm going to have to throw a little higher ball speed to combat that, but let's see how it looks here. Two more.
Oh, I try to mix them up. Okay, last shot here and then I'm going to get right. >> Oh yeah. >> Okay. Shots like that get you amped. Sorry, I did a dad joke. That's what my dad Okay, I'm going to get right now. I'm expecting this ball to go Brooklyn because there's a lot of friction outside, but we'll see. I'm going to
stand on board 17. Yeah, it's what I was expecting, but didn't go as much Brooklyn as I thought it would. >> Okay, let's see if I can get my ball speed up a little bit here.
Whoa. Okay. Well, I don't think my ball speed up, but I think I might have hit it a little more. Um, this ball is made for medium to medium to heavy oil conditions, and there's a lot of uh friction outside of five here. So, this is not the ideal line for this ball. We're going to have a couple more shots here, and then I'm going to do a wrap up.
Okay, last one here. That might be the line. I'm going throw a little bit faster. We'll see. [Music] Hey, I got one. I missed it off my hand. That's why I didn't hook it as much. Okay, overall thoughts on the new Rotogrip Rockstar Amped. Okay, I got it all out there. If you're looking for a good symmetric pro blowing ball, it
definitely looks for this ball. I can't wait to see how it rolls in tournaments. If you've been watching throughout this whole video, what are you doing? Like and subscribe and I'll see you in the next one. Thanks for watching. Bye.
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed that the Roto Grip Rockstar Amped delivers a notably aggressive backend reaction on house oil patterns, with independent reviewers observing a sharp, immediate change of direction compared to some competing symmetric pearls. On the test lane, the ball demonstrated what testers described as “giddy up”—snappy motion off the midlane that translates to strong pin action. The reactive pearl coverstock showed good length through the fronts, though reviewers found that lane transition became a factor as oil burned down; adjusting ball speed and positioning proved effective in dialing in consistency as the pattern evolved.
When compared directly to other symmetric pearl options, the Rockstar Amped displayed slightly more aggressive backend motion than some alternatives in the category, though reviewers noted it produces a more “floating” motion through the midlane than asymmetric designs. Testing showed the ball responds well to hand adjustments—reducing rev rate or moving angles produced smoother arcs and more controlled hitting power. One notable observation was that the Amped’s symmetric core differential allows bowlers to find multiple productive angles, particularly when open entries are available. The ball proved most effective in medium-heavy oil conditions on house shots, where its backend snap generates explosive pin action.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Rockstar Amped is an excellent choice for bowlers throwing in the moderate-to-high rev rate range who want a symmetric pearl that delivers immediate backend response without requiring an asymmetric layout. It works particularly well for players bowling on house shots with medium-heavy oil, where aggressive motion and strong hook potential are assets. The ball’s straightforward reaction profile makes it valuable for bowlers building a versatile arsenal—it fills a clear role between smoother urethane options and more angular asymmetrics.
This ball will appeal most to intermediate and advanced bowlers comfortable adjusting speed and angles to manage the backend reaction as lanes break down. Players who prefer a pearled coverstock for dry-to-medium conditions but need something with pronounced motion for oilier patterns will find the Amped a practical middle-ground choice. At $164.95, it offers solid value for tournament bowlers and serious league players seeking a dependable symmetric pearl without a premium price tag.
The Pros
- • Nanostar Pearl on the Rocker AI core transforms the Rockstar motion from arcing to angular with more length and backend
- • Rocker AI symmetric core at .050 differential delivers strong hitting power rare in a symmetric pearl
- • Power Edge finish provides midlane engagement that keeps it playable on medium-heavy oil
- • Natural complement to the Rockstar Solid — same core shape, different ball motion
The Cons
- • Pearl coverstock will struggle on fresh heavy oil where the solid Rockstar excels
- • At $164.95, it overlaps with several other pearl options in the Storm/Roto Grip family
