Storm Axiom Review
While no longer in production, the Storm Axiom remains a solid option on the used market for bowlers seeking reliable performance on medium-heavy oil conditions. The combination of the Orbital Core and NeX Solid coverstock delivers consistent midlane read with controllable backend motion.
hi I'm Jordan Jung and I like smelly balls hey guys I'm Ryan Barker they only keep me around cuz I'm left-handed guys welcome back to jr. Pro Shop Vince today we're introducing the storm axiom the new axiom features the Nano Xtreme cover stock today we're gonna compare it against the phase 2 which also has a nano based cover stock the core numbers
on these who are quite similar with the added strength of the cover stock on the axiom we expect it to be a little bit stronger than phase 2 but not as much ball as a as a crux prime we expect the axiom to fit somewhere between the phase 2 and the crux Prime and to beat being strong a symmetrical ball in the storm lineup that's enough talk let's take the junk on the Lance welcome back Junior Pro Shop bids axiom time comparing trust
the old phase 2 which everyone should have all right I'll throw the phase 2 first hold on Big Ben here [Music]
a little bit later I move on touch right let's even go straight with the face cream till the action on the exact same line how the feeling Maxim's and hook a little bit sooner and a little bit more
overall same layout both balls are pretty fresh really fresh actually [Music]
wow that one dead fly oh definitely picked up earlier much stronger than the face do a couple feet sooner a couple more boards overall well super-strong natinal extreme cover stock extreme is
write things out fur on the outside of it okay same line with the peas too again let's slow it down a bit so you ready to talk
definitely a touch later for sure good complement to the phase 2 a little bit earlier I don't sometimes in tournaments phase 2 I can't use readily out of the gate to pin again
all right to left with the axe you see that'll hook back any words for our junior shot down yeah stay safe well to everyone to left with the accent [Music] almost crazy
neat sim saw with some storms got me good move to more get it back again [Music] yeah all those have fur on it actually
it's got the got like maybe a game and a half on it now still hasn't lost any of its fur by fur what do you mean it's like super dull the finish of it very dull judy back to the right with it so I'd say probably three words stronger
than the fees - same layout phase - probably has five games on it axiom has one game awesome ball very smooth and controllable but hooks a ton would be very good for the fresh unlike medium to longer patterns I'm gonna move a couple
right here so it a bit harder definitely shapes really nice what are those hand signals you didn't know we're cousins
somehow poor Jake I got all the loops I miss a little bit right there but I think the action would have made it back yeah please do just a little bit later and a little bit less perfect one-two
punch if you have a phase two in your bag and you're looking for something a little bit earlier a little bit stronger axiom is the one for you all right
that's a wrap all right guys it's about a week after we film the ball review for the axiom versus the phase two and I've got about ten or twelve games on it now after that this ball is one of the best balls ever thrown honestly one of the first things I noticed is that it doesn't shine up with Lane shock the cover is almost identical than when it came out of the box unlike some of the idols and IQ tours and stuff where they shine up real quick this keeps it surface on the 42-foot pattern I was crossing the arrows at 20
and going out to ten and this ball would pick up really early but still save enough energy for the back end and I was really very surprised at how well it kicked out the tenpin because usually when my ball starts up pretty early like the UFO or the crux primer I can't get that 10 - no but this seemed Agenor gee I kicked her all those 10 pins and I was very pleasantly surprised on the 42-foot pattern after two games a leak I went straight down to the Phase two and it was a perfect one-two combo I just moved
two boards left with the phase two after the accident started leaving ten pins and started to be a little bit too early and it was a it was perfect alright so those of you that know that I bought lots of tournaments I really have trouble at the asymmetrical so they just seemed to roll super early and super tumbly for me so I think this axiom would be perfect it's a little stronger the strongest symmetric ball I've thrown and it's gonna really help me out on the fresh so I don't have to use a crux prime or something huge right away alright thanks for watching dear approach that bids everyone like subscribe comment down below also let me
know how you like this video if you like Barker if you don't like Barker you know it's really up in the air tell us what you think honestly we won't hurt our feelings any constructive criticism is good thanks for watching everyone [Music] you
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed the Storm Axiom positions itself as a notably stronger option compared to the Phase 2, despite their similar core structures. Independent reviewers observed that the Axiom’s Nano Xtreme coverstock generates significantly earlier hook initiation—roughly two to three boards earlier—while maintaining reliable backend continuation. On fresh 42-foot patterns, the ball picked up early downlane yet retained enough energy through the pins to consistently convert difficult spares like the 10-pin, a characteristic that surprised testers accustomed to earlier-reacting symmetrical balls sacrificing pin action. The coverstock also demonstrated impressive durability, resisting the lane shine that typically develops on comparable equipment after extended play, maintaining its aggressive surface characteristics across 10+ games of use.
When evaluated against its direct counterpart, the Phase 2, the Axiom clearly outperformed in overall hook potential and angular motion. Testers noted the ball could be used immediately on fresh oil conditions where the Phase 2 required extra games to become viable, making the Axiom a practical one-two pairing option. The symmetrical design coupled with medium-heavy oil specifications delivered smooth, controllable motion without the overly tumbling reaction some testers associate with asymmetrical designs in similar oil volumes. This combination—early length combined with controlled, predictable backend reaction—suggests the Axiom fills a performance gap for bowlers seeking aggressive symmetric motion on house patterns and typical fresh sport shots.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Axiom is ideal for bowlers who regularly face fresh oil conditions and need a strong symmetric option without immediately reaching for asymmetrical equipment. Tournament competitors accustomed to using asymmetrical balls early in sessions—who struggle with their extreme angular motion—will find the Axiom’s balance of early reaction and stability particularly valuable. House league bowlers with two-handed or traditional release styles who want earlier hook and more aggressive motion than the Phase 2 delivers will benefit from this ball’s controlled aggression.
This ball serves bowlers working with medium-heavy oil patterns who lack a dedicated piece in that oil volume sweet spot. If your current arsenal jumps from a mid-oil ball directly to heavy equipment, the Axiom bridges that gap effectively. It’s particularly suited for bowlers who value surface consistency and durability over gimmick finishes—the coverstock’s resistance to lane shine means minimal surface maintenance to maintain performance across multiple practice sessions and tournament formats.
The Pros
- • Strong midlane read for medium-heavy oil
- • Clean Storm NeX Solid coverstock technology
- • Predictable ball motion with symmetrical design
The Cons
- • Limited versatility on lighter oil patterns
- • Moderate differential may not suit rev-dominant bowlers
