Storm Equinox Solid Review
Heavy oil companion to the Equinox Pearl. Same Solarion AI core, solid cover for flooded conditions. $199.95. Video inside.
[Music] I feel like this is something that if you're needing something that's a little bit stronger, uh, not super super early, this might be the piece. [Music] CEO Ronald Hicklin from Creating the Difference. Today we're going to talk about the brand new Storm Equinox Solid. This ball has the A2S solid reactive cover stock, the Salaren AI asymmetrical core shape, the RG is 2.4 48. The differential is 0.054. The mass bias is
0.018. The hardness is 73. It's finished 2000 grit Avalon. It's scanned right at 1500 grit with the CTD version 2 surface scanner. The absorption rate is medium and it's laid out 60x 4 1.5x30. I'm also joined by expert bowler Christopher from Mojo. Chris, what do you think about black, white, and green? >> Man, I like camo, so I actually like the way it look. >> All right. Well, let's see what the Equinox solid is all about. right now.
First shot does not count. Let us know if you like the pinbreaker shirt. This is a new shirt design that we got up on the website right now, ctdbbo.com. Let us know in the comments if you like it. If you don't like it, then leave a shirt design comment for us. Leave us a name that we should put on a shirt. Maybe we'll select it. If we do, maybe we'll select you to get one for free from us at Creating the Difference. All right, Chris, we got a lot of flare here. probably about 6 in of flare. Well, that second shot was definitely
not that much different from the first one, but that reaction was That's why we say first shot doesn't count. Like the first shot does not count. And that that matters when you're in League, too. Like when you're in league, that first shot, it doesn't count cuz the ball's got to get some oil on it. The ball's got to kind of come to equilibrium, if you will, so it can begin to react fairly consistently. Sometimes it's two shots, sometimes it's four. really kind of depends on the ball what you're involved on 10 back. So Equinox, the original Equinox I wasn't really a huge fan of.
Um but this ball definitely is not that ball. Uh this ball definitely appears initially to be just a stronger, bigger hooking piece. This one hooks. What are you What are you seeing out there, Chris? I mean, it looks smooth, you know, so kind of a departure from what, you know, usually you see out of the Storm Balls, but look pretty smooth. It has that medium absorption rate. What that really means is that the oil won't absorb into
the ball as fast. So, it's really critical to make sure you keep wiping the ball off every shot for sure to keep your reaction as consistent as possible. >> There you go. This ball gives me the feeling that like it's got some teeth to it. You know what I'm saying? It feels like it's it feels like I like it's going to dig. Like it's going to go. You know what I mean? That's what I mean. Like I feel like this ball it's it's it's going to go, bro. It's
not scary to hook. >> Yeah. I think definitely as the surface is changing and it's coming up, it's starting to get a little more lively down lane. Oo Jesus. >> Yeah. I mean that was way way way left. It almost came back, bro. >> Bro, >> almost came back. >> That's a little crazy. >> Blackjack. [Music] I hate the flat seven bits. The flat seven pins not a fan. A ring seven I can
deal with, but flats not good. That basically means throw it better. Throw it better. But I think it depend on like how you bowl too. Like your rev rate. Like I feel like cuz you got a medium rev rate, the flat 7 is bad. Like if I flat 10 is not really so bad cuz my rev rates higher. I could just hit it a little more. >> Well, because you don't ever do it. >> Yeah, you might be right. >> Into the A. Come on, bro. This ball's got some hook to it. I think this ball's
Put the lights on a little bit. As a medium rev rate guy, I like that. This is a good ball. It's got a lot of hook to it. The shape's good, though. The shape's continuous. Stronger, bigger hooking bowling ball for sure. >> Yeah. When you get it in a little bit, she ain't holding back. >> No, that's that's the thing. Because it's stronger, right? It definitely is
not scared of the oil. It definitely reads the oil. It keeps going. I think this ball's going to work. Let's get into the friction. Let's decrease the rotation and let's go more up the back of it to see how continuous it actually is in the friction. Smooth, predictable. This is like a one in one, maybe two in one at the most. And this feels good.
Yeah, this piece is got a lot of upside to it for sure. I mean, even with the big hook, like to slow down, get around it more, Chris. You can see this claw doesn't stop. It keeps going for sure. What do you think? >> I think that's where it's supposed to be right there. I feel like it looked real good from in there. A little more in the oil, not as much in the dry.
The shape's good, right? The shape's good. It's got that nice continuous shape to it. I think it really is a step up, a step more aggressive, uh a step uh better for more oil than the original Equinox. And I feel like this is something that if you're needing something that's a little bit stronger, uh, not super super early, this might be the piece. Okay, let's go back uh, left and one more good shot and then maybe we'll put a little polish on this ball.
Yeah, let's see what she does with some Truth Cut hand apply polish plus power by Turtle Wax. I'm curious to see if we keep the continuation and just kind of push everything down lane or if something else happens. Stay tuned. All right, so now the bowling ball's been polished. It scans right at 6,500 grit. Chris, I think it looks beautiful now, bro. I like the shine. >> Yeah, a lot of shelf appeal. >> Yeah, for sure. For sure. Well, let's see how it rolls. That's what matters. >> First shot does not count. >> I'm kind of glad the first shot don't
count. Hey boy, she went straight. >> She went long and long and long long. >> Ah, so it went a little forward that time. That's why it's important to be able to adjust the service and kind of see what you think happens, right? Cuz like that was interesting. We'll move more into the friction.
Different ball. Definitely a different ball. As a matter of fact, I feel like now with it at that surface, it's clean, but not it's not continuous. It's more clean and then more forward. No. What do you think, Chris? >> Uh, throw it another time or two. Let's see what happen as as you get a few more shots on it. Yeah, I I feel like I mean it's now it's
going to create me some hold. Um cuz it's definitely cleaning this a little more forward now. It's not bad, right? It's just different. So if you're a guy likes to play straight down the lane, get the ball positive cuz don't get it twisted. You can still strike with it. And I feel like now I just got to be keep it more in front of me. And if I miss it, it'll it'll hold pocket whereas before that had no chance of happening. >> Yeah, it actually looks just a little more usable for you. So might not be as
exciting. But you striking more. I mean, at the end of the day, bro, strikes for show. You know what I'm saying? Like sometimes when you polish balls up like that and they're really strong, really continuous, they keep that that strong character. that he's pushing down the lane. This one, it pushes it down the lane and it transitions more from it being continuous to more forward. Which is why now I can go further left, play a little bit straighter, and get the ball to give me some room for error.
>> Come on. A >> almost almost. So, let's do one more thing. I'm going to just knock the shine off the ball. Right, we went from uh 1500 grit to 6500. Let's get the shine off of it and get kind of right in the middle. Two cut conditioner. Go around the sides of the ball. Hit that top. Go around the sides of the ball again.
And all I'm doing is just knocking down the shine. Just knocking it down. I don't even want it necessarily all gone. Just want to knock it down a little bit. More conditioner. Flip the ball over. Same process. Okay. Shine. Knock down. Yeah. So, so that I feel like that doesn't count obviously, but I feel like got a little more of the continuation back too.

Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
The Equinox Solid takes the Solarion AI asymmetric core from the Storm Equinox Pearl and wraps it in the A2S Solid Reactive coverstock at a 2000 grit finish, and the spec sheet leaves no doubt about the assignment. A 2.48 RG means the core revs up early and reads the midlane, the .054 differential delivers heavy flare and serious board coverage, and the .018 intermediate differential gives the breakpoint the defined, decisive character of a true asymmetric. Where the Pearl version stores that energy for the backend, the solid cover at 2000 grit puts it to work early, gripping flooded conditions that polished equipment skids straight through.
The ratings show a top-of-the-line piece with a clear specialty. Hook potential is a 9.0 and pin action a remarkable 9.5, with an 8.5 backend that arrives as strong continuation rather than a violent snap; the 6.5 length rating is simply the cost of all that traction. The consensus across an unusually deep pool of video reviews matches the numbers, with Luke Rosdahl going as far as calling it โAlpha Crux 2.0,โ a reference to the slot this ball occupies in Stormโs lineup: the piece you reach for when the lanes are saturated and everything else hits flat. Multiple reviewers show the same picture, an early, heavy midlane read flowing into a continuous drive through the pins, which is exactly what the 9.0 overall score is rewarding.
The cons deserve respect. On medium conditions this is too much ball, burning energy in the fronts, and like any dull solid the cover needs regular surface maintenance to keep its out-of-box bite.
Who Is This Ball For?
Tournament bowlers and anyone who regularly faces real volume should consider this a cornerstone piece. If your competition schedule includes long or flat patterns, or your house pours fresh, heavy oil for league, the Equinox Solid gives you traction and carry that cleaner equipment cannot match. Power players will love how the asymmetric core converts revs into continuation, while speed-dominant bowlers and lower rev rates get genuine help, since the early-revving core and 2000 grit surface do the lane-reading work for them. Owners of the Equinox Pearl have the most obvious case of all: same engine, two covers, a matched pair that brackets the transition from flooded fresh to broken down.
Be honest about your conditions before spending the $199.95. On a typical medium house shot this ball will read too early and leave its energy in the front half, and bowlers who do not want to maintain a solid coverstock will watch its strength fade. As a specialist for heavy oil, though, it sits among the strongest options in Stormโs current lineup, and the 9.5 pin action is the payoff.
