Storm Trend Review
While no longer in production, the Storm Trend remains a solid option on the used market for bowlers seeking reliable performance on medium-heavy oil conditions with strong backend motion.
uh so for me this is gonna stay in my bag i feel a little weird having a bowling ball with another bowler on on my bowling ball but you know what that's okay if it strikes i don't care i'll take 12 of them and i'll keep striking with them if they're going to help me win what's up guys jr raymond back again coming to you from shot makers pro shop here in toledo ohio we're at new glass bowl where today i'm bringing you the new belmo ball the trend by storm it's got that r2s cover that everybody loves so let's see what it gives us it's going to have that same layout as you just saw
with the parallax and with that afterburner so this is that 55 by 5 by 40. we got it on the same lane on the same pattern let's see what the difference between that and that parallax was before here in a minute on a 44 foot league pattern stay tuned
[Music] all right i got the trend here oh if i can get my thumb out of the ball just a new ball new thumb nice and tight having trouble there we go we got her going same thing i'm going to start that track area i'm trying to go before my board box is shut off let me try that 13-14 range
that one picked up a little bit better than the uh then uh parallax did down so we're gonna start moving up maybe this will be a nice little step up from the parallax even though it's a little i believe these were weaker numbers yeah i think this is a weaker number weaker cover weaker core so i'm gonna go three left try to get to that 15 16 area see what we can come up with
yeah now we got a little bit kick down line so we can uh we can start going left and see what this thing can really do down lane i was honestly i was shocked with that parallax how much it was kind of not i don't want to say it was super lazy it was just rounded it was smoother than i expected out of a uh out of us out of a shiny cover so man i'm gonna shoot spares like this seem to do really well doing that but out of a out of a shiny storm ball
you don't really see much laziness down or roundness down lane all right so i'm gonna go i'm gonna just kind of jump left here see if i can't get to that 1819 range now get my hand around it a pinch to see if it gets to the pins yeah i like that motion all right we might have a winner here i like that motion really really good that pops through the pins really well
that it's kind of like that after burner or maybe a little bit stronger than the afterburner whereas the parallax might be better on the fresh might allow me to close my angles down and play a little bit more well-rounded and then once we get to this when i need a little bit more pop down lane i'll be in good shape all right we're going a few more left nice strong hand position
oh missed right should be good though ah yeah i got a little bit forward with my hand because i missed right but it's still picked up and still tried to go through the fence but again another example you throw one bad you end up with nine so just don't throw them bad goodness just throw them good man just throw every shot good you ain't got to worry about it i will let you guys in on a little bit of a secret i didn't tell you in those last two videos but i am working on a huge span
change trying to get rid of some pain in the middle finger which i think we accomplished but the problem is is this span is uh uh it's 3 8 longer than what it was before so it feels super stretched to me even though technically it's not it's actually more proper than what i was using but it feels better i feel more relaxed like i don't have to try so hard to hold on to it or to be able to do what i want
oh got that out that's about the same plot and that when he actually even got a little bit further right now lane and it kicked the 10 out kicked the 7 out all right so now i can really start to get my hand around it a little bit more and go left and watch it boomerang [Music] look at that peanut butter and jelly don't ask i have no idea
oh miss left 10 back 10 back see it again there there you go says i hit 28. i don't think that was quite right those further distances are a little different i guess but that's all right here we go i like this motion though this ball looks really good this ball looks really good this ball is gonna probably be a staple in the bag all right here we go going left
and around it yeah so you got that i mean it's just that that's that popular cover that r2s cover and it just man it goes down lane and i personally haven't been a huge fan of this cover stock so maybe it's just this core that matches up with me um but because the cover like it's that high road i mean the high road the hybrid i don't remember is the trend is the trend the r2s pearl or the r2s hybrid
i don't remember but i know the high road was the hybrid bullet right correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the original high road was a hybrid and i hated it i couldn't i drove six of them i know everybody's heard that story before but i drove six of them and could not find one that worked look good for me i saw a lot of over under but whatever this one is this one looks great that's way right still gets there i got all the way to four from 22. that's ridiculous good grief this is amazing
so we're going to try a couple more shots i'm going to get over the ball receiving the ball return get over that ball return and try to really throw it to the right and see if it boomerangs ah i almost got four tried to get it out there didn't quite make it all right there you go so that's the uh the trend
from storm the belmo ball first bumble ball i've drilled and like i said in the review earlier about the layouts and stuff i i didn't drill a because i was on ebi staff at the time so i never drilled a timeless or a drive um but this one from the from the looks of it and from what i see out of my hand it's much better than what the timeless and the drive was at least from what i saw so for me this is gonna stay in my bag i feel a little weird having a bowling ball with another bowler on on my bowling ball but you know what that's okay if it strikes
i don't care i'll take 12 of them and i'll keep striking with them if they're going to help me win but this is one that you can go over to bowler x.com get yours today there's going to be a link in the description to get it and again the layout was 55 by 5 by 40. so remember that for when you're trying to create this type of ball motion but other than that i'm out of here guys we'll see you later make sure to stop up at shot makers and see keith and aaron whenever you get a chance to uh and always do all your shopping over at bowler x.com we'll see you guys later
[Music] you
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Independent testing of the Storm Trend on a 44-foot league pattern revealed a ball with notably stronger downlane motion than expected from its specifications. The Reactive Pearl coverstock displayed consistent, aggressive backend reaction—particularly when the bowler moved into the 15–19 board range—generating significant pin action and carry through the 1-3 pocket. Testers observed that the ball’s motion profile fell somewhere between a smoother, more rounded response and a sharper angular motion, making it suitable for adjustments throughout the lane transition. The symmetrical core paired with the R2S cover generated reliable pin-mixing energy rather than overly aggressive deflection, which allowed for repeatable strikes even on slightly off-target shots.
One of the more interesting findings was how the Trend responded to hand position and axis rotation changes. As testers increased their hand action and moved further left, the ball demonstrated strong boomerang characteristics with pronounced midlane length and backend recovery. Surface adjustments were kept minimal during testing, suggesting the factory finish offers solid versatility out of the box on medium-heavy oil conditions. Comparisons to other balls in the tester’s arsenal indicated the Trend positioned itself as a step up in downlane pop from smoother, more controlled options, while maintaining more predictable motion than highly aggressive asymmetrical designs. The ball proved particularly effective once lanes began to transition and required more angular movement to reach the pocket.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Storm Trend is an excellent choice for bowlers who carry mid-performance equipment and need a ball that bridges the gap between controlled, stroking releases and more aggressive hand positions. League bowlers operating in medium-heavy oil conditions will find this ball especially useful during the transition phase, when smoother equipment becomes insufficient but the lanes haven’t yet broken down enough to require maximum aggression. The Reactive Pearl coverstock and symmetrical core combination makes it forgiving enough for bowlers still refining consistency, while offering enough backend motion to reward good fundamentals.
This ball is also well-suited for competitive bowlers building a three- to four-ball arsenal. Its motion profile suggests it pairs effectively with smoother control pieces (like the Parallax mentioned in testing) for fresh-lane play and earlier in a shift, while still providing enough pop and carry to handle mid-to-late-match conditions. The Trend’s willingness to respond to increased hand action makes it particularly valuable for bowlers who like to adjust their axis rotation and release point rather than constantly swapping equipment—a practical advantage for cash league and tournament play.
The Pros
- • Strong backend motion from R2S Pearl coverstock
- • Good length through the front part of the lane
- • Solid mid-range hook potential for versatile scoring
The Cons
- • Limited versatility on lighter oil conditions
- • Moderate differential limits overall hook potential
