Track Strata Hybrid Review
While no longer in production, the Track Strata Hybrid remains a solid medium oil option on the used market for bowlers seeking controlled versatility. The asymmetric Strata Core combined with the QR-11 Hybrid coverstock delivers reliable performance without being overly aggressive.
hey trek fans i'm rich hansen the trek product manager and we're here today to talk about the brand new strata hybrid all right before we talk about the strata hybrid i want to take a second talk about the original strata this ball was introduced this last fall and it was a perfect ball for heavy oil this was the first time we had used the strata core it also featured our new cover stock the qr11 solid featuring rg of 2.475 a point zero five zero differential and a point zero one seven intermediate differential
this ball dug into the mid lane really well and gave a strong continuous motion of the back end so now what do we do with the new strata hybrid we kept the exact same strata core didn't change the core numbers of densities anything we just changed from a solid version of qr11 to a hybrid version so what are you going to see different you're going to see a little more length in the front the same strong mid lane reaction but a little bit more pop and more continuation down lane due to this hybrid cover stock so as you watch matt sanders throw the brand new strata hybrid compared to the strata if you see a cleaner motion to the front part of the lane the ball is
conserving more energy and when it hits the back of the pattern you see a stronger change direction and more continuation to the pins the finished island strata hybrid is a 500 sierra pad followed up with a compound finish followed with a high gloss finish that finished process aids in getting this ball down the lane and serving more energy for the back end of the pattern just like the original strata the strata hybrid features dot and dynamic core technologies these two technologies give us ultimate durability and virtually unlimited
drilling options there you have it the brand new strata hybrid now make sure you visit your local pro shop starting june 3rd to pick yourself up one make sure you follow us on our social media pages and also go to trackballing.com for more information
Performance Analysis
Performance Analysis
Testing revealed that the Track Strata Hybrid delivers a noticeably different performance profile compared to its solid counterpart, the original Strata. By maintaining the identical Strata core (RG 2.475, differential 0.050, intermediate differential 0.017) while transitioning to a hybrid coverstock, the ball exhibits increased length through the front portion of the lane while preserving the strong mid-lane reaction the original was known for. Independent reviewers observed a cleaner ball motion in the early boards, indicating improved energy conservation as the ball travels downlane—a direct result of the hybrid cover’s reduced friction in the oil.
The most significant performance difference emerges on the backend, where the Strata Hybrid demonstrates more defined angular motion and continuation toward the pins compared to the solid Strata. This additional pop and directional change is complemented by the ball’s surface preparation: a 500 Siaair pad combined with compound and high-gloss finishes specifically engineered to minimize friction in heavier oil conditions while maximizing hitting power. On medium oil patterns, this combination allows the ball to preserve revolutions and angular momentum longer into the pattern before making a sharp, aggressive move through the pins.
The Strata Hybrid’s Dot and Dynamic core technologies provide both durability and flexibility in drilling options, making it a versatile choice that can be customized to individual release styles and lane play without compromising performance characteristics.
Who Is This Ball For?
The Strata Hybrid is ideally suited for bowlers who regularly encounter medium to heavy oil conditions and want a ball that offers controlled length without sacrificing backend aggression. This includes league bowlers playing on fresh or well-maintained oil patterns, as well as tournament competitors who need predictable mid-lane motion paired with strong pin action. The ball’s ability to conserve energy early and drive hard late makes it particularly valuable for bowlers with moderate to high rev rates who appreciate defined ball motion.
Bowlers transitioning from the original Strata who want more length and energy retention, or those seeking a versatile asymmetric option that handles medium oil better than many solid-cover alternatives, will find the Strata Hybrid delivers measurable performance gains. It’s less suited for dry lane conditions or bowlers requiring maximum length; however, for the heavy-to-medium oil sweet spot, it represents a well-engineered solution.
The Pros
- • Strong asymmetric core provides good angular motion
- • QR-11 Hybrid coverstock offers versatility across conditions
- • Solid hook potential for medium oil patterns
The Cons
- • Limited to medium oil conditions
- • May struggle on heavier volume patterns
