Roto Grip Rubicon Review

[Music] hey guys welcome back to jr pro shop vids hey we got a brand new ball review for you today we're doing the roto grip rubicon so the rubicon here features the etrax s20 solid cover stock it's kind of similar to the one found on the idle pro it also features the brand new asymmetric rondura core so today we have jungle on the lanes he's going to be comparing it to the idle and the ufo so first we're going to compare it against the idol because

they're both from the hp3 line we expect the rubicon to be a little bit cleaner through the fronts just because of the weaker cover stock but because of the a sim core we expect it to turn the corner a lot harder we'll also be comparing it here against the ufo another asymmetric ball from roto grip overall the ufo is just a stronger ball with the stronger cover stock and core so we expected to out hook the rubicon here jungle will be bowling on dead man's curve it's 43 foot and you can see it right here so we chose to bull on dead man's curve

because all three of these are pretty strong and jungle would like to see a little bit more oil and a little bit longer oil in terms of layouts the rubicon and the ufo here are drilled exactly the same with the idle drill to be a little bit weaker all right so after filming barker's video last i'm really looking forward to seeing some strikes so jungle let's get going

[Applause] [Music] welcome back to jr pro shop vids everyone rubicon time really excited for this one usually the roto grip balls are underrated you know idle pro one of the best balls ever thrown underrated so my favorite ball the idol [Music]

let's start with that standing on 33 1 over 19 at the arrows [Music] just one board left there hit 20 at the arrows uh ball went a little far down lane left to wrap 10. pretty good shot though all right let's throw the rubicon on the same line

all right hooked a little bit more and a little stronger down lane let's try and move a couple boards left with the rubicon here so as we all know by now idol is my benchmark go to ball bring it absolutely everywhere fits right in the middle of my bag so i thought it was a great ball to compare the rubicon to so two left here at the rubicon it really turns the corner hard down

lane definitely harder in the back end than the idle boys are right in the shop guess right the boat sean guess right bro about what okay ten pin went light there so stay in the same spot just try and slow it down hit it flush [Music]

let's throw the idle on the same line this isle's got quite a few games on it but uh honestly it hasn't lost reaction at all [Music] that was pretty dirty but as you can see the idle went a little further down lane before it started to hook than the rubicon kind of like a swiss zone strike there i'm already seeing a couple more boards the hook out of the rubicon and a little more motion

see that same line faces up really nice where the idle is kind of a little bit lazy down there messenger 10 with the idle flush with the rubicon okay next ball in the line let's go with the beast mode ufo [Music] this ball hooks insanely early so let's go same line to start should pick up pretty early and go through the face [Music]

so beautiful didn't hook through the face ufo kind of picks up early loses its energy and hits switch zone idle doesn't pick up early enough and goes late to a strong rubicon i like the color scheme on this ball nice and dark really hard on the back end definitely more boards in the idle and a

little sharper down lane so exactly what sean said in the shop the weaker cover stock is going to push the ball a little further like the ufo but the asym core is going to make it hook a bit harder than the idle right so it's going to fit right in between those two i really like the idle pro but i think it was too close to the idle right same core really close cover stock just a little bit weaker if you had an idle right it was hard for people to buy the idle pro as well but the rubicon gives you much different reaction than the idle so good good compliment

so i moved to left my feet there missed a little bit inside and held line and really dulled through the pocket almost like 4 9. pretty good sign though all right guys make sure you like subscribe got lots of content coming out lots of new balls being of the season you do not want to miss this stuff okay john time for strike oh no so i thought that was a really good shot dove pretty hard in the back

end with the 49 so since i'm moving my feet left i've been moving my break point a little bit left too i've been coming in pretty high four pin four nine high strikes i think if i keep that same line here with the idle should be really good hopefully the right reaction hit the pocket just not enough ball to kick out that 10 from that far inside on this fresh dead man's career 43 feet so i think the rubicon is the right ball

right now one board adjustment with my feet okay i'll move my feet one left keep the brake point the same [Music] ball really turns in the back end so right now i'm seeing like four to five boards more hook out of the rubicon than the idle get one more left should be good

butter i could do that every shot be on tour too but i can't last shot was super butter let's try and do it again goodness gracious that was gnarly zoom in on that bad boy so definitely getting four to five more boards of hook out of this than the idle uh to be expected a much

stronger core right so [Music] that's it's a little bit in but that's the right part of the lane for this ball let's throw the ufo again on that same line they see the problem with the ufo and the crux prime and stuff like that for me they just roll so early that they seem to lose their energy in the mid part of the lane so when i get in like this they don't look that great [Music]

i didn't throw that one that great but you can see it didn't really want to make the corner down late right the uf ball and the crux prime they're really good for me if i'm trying to play straighter on like short patterns where you need the ball really early but longer patterns when you need to get in create some angle it's pretty hard trying to feel the ufo a little bit better here [Music] you can see how it lays off in the back end where the rubicon makes the corner dives through the pins

the two ace and solids right two totally different reactions okay let's go two boards left here with the rubicon really emphasize the [Music] difference all right see that go right through the pins pretty nice where the ufo kind of loses energy switch zones from way inside okay one last shot with old faithful idol here okay doing the same line with the idle here should come up a little bit light but still have a pretty nice shape

[Music] see that good difference in all three love them roto balls okay one last shot i'm gonna move three right with the idol and pack one bad boy favorite ball at work all right so we're back here in the shop

jordan first of all thank you you actually threw a bunch of strikes and it made our lives a lot easier we're gonna get out of here a lot faster but anyways back to the rubicon here what were your initial thoughts is it what you expected yeah absolutely hundred percent uh i thought originally it would fit right in between the ufo and the idol and it does exactly that the ufo is really early really smooth rubicon goes a little bit further down lane hooks harder off the spot than the ufo and then the idle is a little less hook overall and a little bit rounder down lane so right in between absolutely

perfect by roto well done awesome so they all kind of compliment each other is there a natural progression you see with these three yeah absolutely we've got lots of oil on the lane we're bowling on fresh there 43 so i'd probably start with the ufo and warm up first game as soon as it starts getting a little bit lazy down lane right to the rubicon same layout right perfect compliment cool so kind of building off of that do you think there's an ideal pattern or time in the block where the rubicon would uh most succeed yeah definitely want to be on like the longer medium patterns 41 42 43 i like today we're going on 43

work really well fresh possibly i might be a little hard off the spot for that but definitely when the lanes start to burn up and break down a little bit game two three four in a block it's going to be great perfect so last video you saw how we needed to make some surface adjustment to barker's ball to really make it work this rubicon out of box do you like the surface or do you see yourself making changes yeah i actually really love it the way it is right now it comes out of the box at 3 000 compliments the idol which is also 3 000 and the ufo which is 2 000 a little bit dull a little bit earlier so it makes a ton of sense so it's a question we've always been asking does

this rubicon have a spot in your tournament bag yeah every storm rotable has a spot in my bag i'm bringing 25 balls to germany no i'm kidding uh but this one does uh so a little bit stronger and a little bit sharper down lane than the idle so we're going seven seven on the graph and that actually looks like i have a little gap there so it works out perfectly but we're going to be removing a couple because it's getting a little cluttered there so we're going to remove the balls that are no longer being made the discontinued ones all right jung before we wrap it up any last thoughts on the rubicon

uh yeah so we all know that idle is my favorite ball the rubicon complements it very well uh fits in right where the idle pro uh kind of was for me so if you have an idle need something a little bit stronger a little bit sharper rubicon you have a ufo you need something a little bit longer down lane a little bit sharper uh rubicon rubicon rubicon rugan rule god yeah in all seriousness though uh longer pattern if i'm going to a leaguer tournament definitely bring in these three here and i'll complement these three with a couple of pearls and maybe a sim pearl like the trend
